Alyssa Ashmore, MS, RDN, LD
Owner | Nutrition Therapist | Virtual Nutrition Coach
Alyssa initially started studying nutrition out of her own obsession with food and health, but thankfully found intuitive eating and a peaceful approach to food by the time she became a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist. Now, she practices with a passion for helping others on a similar journey. Alyssa has devoted herself to learning about disordered eating, body image, and counseling practices that help her clients the most in their own transformations. She believes true health and happiness will be found not in the foods you eat, but in the way you eat. Alyssa specializes in helping you stop restrict-binge cycles, emotional eating, and obsessing over food so that food can fit into your life instead of becoming the main object of it.
Her desire is to help her clients change their relationship with food, practicing grace instead of guilt and curiosity instead of shame. She practices balanced, gentle nutrition to help your health improve - without sacrificing your sanity.
Alyssa graduated from the University of Mississippi and Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors college, choosing to study self-esteem, body image, and body composition in college women for her undergraduate thesis. She completed her dietetic internship at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas before obtaining her graduate degree from the University of Mississippi. She served as Project Coordinator for a corporate wellness program at GE Aviation, Bariatric and Clinical RD at Mobile Infirmary, and as an RD for the HII Family Health Clinic for Huntington Ingalls Shipbuilding employees and their families. She was chosen as Outstanding Student in Dietetics & Nutrition from the University of Mississippi, Outstanding Dietetic Student for a Didactic Program in Dietetics by the Mississippi Dietetic Association, and Recognized Young Dietitian of the Year from the Alabama Dietetic Association. She has enjoyed hosting several televised nutrition segments on local TV networks and writing for Gulf Coast Woman magazine.
Alyssa began private consulting in 2015 and formed her nutrition practice as Passionate Portions, Inc. in 2018, which is currently known as Coast Nutrition Co. She is the only RD in Mississippi to specialize in treating eating disorders south of Jackson, MS. She loves the ability her private practice affords her to work with her clients with ultimate flexibility to meet their specific needs. If you're interested in using a faith-based approach to your recovery journey, Alyssa would love to do it.
Her nutrition consulting approaches include: Intuitive Eating and Health at Every Size (HAES). She also has an extensive understanding of GI disorders, food allergies and intolerances, celiac disease and medically-required gluten-free diets.
Alyssa feels at home on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. She loves creative hobbies, trying new recipes, being outdoors, and spending time with her family.
